Getting Started

This guide will help you to understand the criteria for creating Raid Array and HDD in Enjay Nas.

As per your number of hard disks selection, you can create raid among the level 0, 1 or 5.

The criteria for creating raid array is as below:

  • With 1 HDD you can create raid 1, but remember there will be no disk mirroring in this case.
  • With 2 HDDs you can create either Raid 0 or Raid 1.
  • With 3 HDDs you can create Raid 5. If one HDD get faulty, data will be recovered with 2 HDDs.
  • With 4 HDDs you can create either Raid 0 or Raid 5 or Raid 6 and Raid 10.
  • You will get the capacity of the raid array on the right side, this is the theoretical capacity, actual capacity will be lesser than this.

Raid Array Conditions .

Raid 0        Minimum hard disks required 2 Maximum hard disks supported 4 Addition of Disks space with good performance.
                  -Raid 0 : Stripping.

Raid 1        Minimum hard disks required 1 Maximum hard disks supported 2 Mirroring Disks with good redundancy.
                 -Raid 1 : Mirroring.

Raid 5        Minimum hard disks required 3 Maximum hard disks supported 4 Stripping and redundancy of data.
                 -Raid 5 : block-level striping with parity.

Raid 6        Minimum 4 hard disk Data Redundancy is high. if two got fail, data will be recoverable with two. 50% of disk space will be used.
-Raid 6 :includes a second parity scheme that is distributed across the drives in the array. The use of additional parity allows the array to continue to function even if two disks fail simultaneously.

Raid 10      Minimum 4 disks. Excellent redundancy ( Strips + Mirrored ) its also called Raid 1+0.
